Other shorter programes complete ok but anything longer like a movie always stops randomely before the end somtimes by up to 15 minutes early, i am on the very latest build but it was doing it before i updated.

Any ideas

What image are you using?
How do you plan your timers?
What have you set as time after?

Im on build 712, the time after is 6 minutes, sometimes i find in epg then press red button, other times i instant record by pressing red button but the issue still happens with either.

Check your mount points as it may be trying to record to the USB stick rather than the HDD.

I checked the mount points and they all good, could it be a dodgy hdd?

What does the mountmanager say about the HDD?

320 gb, mount /media/hdd, vfat r/w, dev/sda1

Hmmm vfat. How come it's formatted like that? That could very well be your issue.
Best is to let the box initialise the HDD; it will then be in the Ext4 format, which is optimal. Of course you'll loose all the contents in the process.

I alway initialise from menu on remote, not sure how it ended up vfat, ive converted it to ext4 now, see how he gets on
