avi files issue

looking for information on avi files with sat receivers

I have had 4 receivers of different makes and models over the last few years and I have never been able to get avi files to play correctly

currently with the venton hd2 avi files play like they are in slow motion

I don't have any issue with any other file type

I think am right in the assumption that it is down to drivers and not image

would it make a difference if the avi files were converted to a different format?

AVI is just a container and doesn't say anything about the codecs used. The same applies to MKV.
If a video-file is not played correctly, it means that the codec used in the file is not supported by the hardware. You could transcode the files, e.g. with a program like Handbrake and using a compatible codec. If you use H264 you're sure that the file will be played fine by all HD-STB's.
