Hello,

Just a quick note to start which is thanks to this great forum as reading the guides etc I have setup my Venton HD2 (great box BTW) with no problems.
I just have a couple of questions.

The unit i bought has twin satellite tuners, when i was fitting my HDD i noticed one of the tuners has what i would describe as a classic heatsync but the other one doesn't have one the same (it just has a metal c shape which i suppose is some form of heatsync). I was just wondering if anybody knows if this is normal - it seems strange for the 2 not to be the same. Also when the box is on, the area around the tuners is getting ridiculously hot (not just warm, red red hot - maybe not egg frying territory but probably not too far off). The rest of the box is quite cool. Is this normal, I know my old Sky+ Box got hot, I have an F5 in the bedroom and that can get quite hot as well, but this is alot hotter than those two ever get.

The other question is to do with the EPG - i have used the Auto Bouquet Maker and the EPG is working fine, but i have read some guides saying to use a USB stick for the EPG, it that highly recommended, does it give some performance improvement (I haven't noticed any lag etc on the EPG the way i have it set up).

Cheers.

The tuner heatsinks are normal. The one with the Black C shape is their latest version. Unit gets shipped from factory with one tuner, so you could end up with 2 version of tuner.

The reason it is recommended to use a USB stick or a internal Hard Disk rather than the receivers internal flash memory is a precaution in case the EPG corrupts, if this does happen the EPG.dat file can grow very large very fast, filling up the flash resulting in what is known as a boot loop. If that does happen you will have to reflash the receiver.

Ah ok cheers for that. I will follow the guide i found (in actual fact it is your guide i am pretty sure so thanks for that as well) and store on my internal HDD.
In your opinion is the amount of heat anything to worry about? wondering whether i should put a fan in near to the tuners. Rest of the unit is cold, its just that back right area is mega hot.

I'm not overly familiar with that model as it's not one i have used so i cant really say, sorry.

So far I haven't heard of any overheating problems on any Venton.

Why is such a big thing made about tuner heat? Have you felt how hot a VU+ Duo2 twin tuner module gets? Have you felt ohw hot a Technomate receiver gets? Its normal in many HD receivers.

I'm not sure if 'making a big deal' is directed at myself or is a comment based on other posts you have been reading. I wasn't making a big deal, I only have 2 other boxes to compare the Venton to and they don't run as hot as it does - i didnt say this meant it was faulty/dangerous/unreliable i was just trying to get clarity on what the 'norm' is. Clearly if i had the other boxes you mention that ran as hot then i wouldn't ask in the first place. Fair play though, you have answered my question and you have re-assured me there is nothing to worry about, and for that i am thankful, so cheers.
