i already have everything running fine apart from a few channels which breakup. Is there any harm applying a settings file or will this muck everything up?

Can you please give a bit more detail on what you are actually trying to do?

Make sure the freq for the channels are all correct.

you could try that if you like just to be sure but if your can tune to the channel in the first place before it breaks up that would suggest the frequencies are correct and may point to a slight alignment issue with the dish you could also check that the skew is correct for the lnb too.

i am getting SNR 55% and AGC 23% we are using a communial dish as live in a block of apartments does this sound ok?

no mate thats quite low on both. i'm at work for at least another hour so i cant post my readings but i'd expect SNR to be 90+ and AGC to be a lot higher too.

i is higher on other channels. What could the problem be?

List which channels are showing these low readings and ill compare when I get in. Rite now it could be a number of things dragging the signal down and the fact its a communal dish makes any diagnoses a lot harder.

on all 4 of those channels i get 95 to 99 percent SNR and 41 percent AGC all channels are working perfectly.

AGC doesn't provide any info, so no need to mention the values. It's SNR that's the deciding value.
