What's the biggest HDD you can fit in the Duo2? I'm looking to buy a 3.5" SATA3 3tb seagate, but only if it will work and I can see the full capacity. I can't see anything in the specs.

Not 100% sure, but I'm sure that most e2 boxes can take up to 4gb hdd at least now...

I've been using 2tb hdd's in my box for ages now, and remember the time when there was a 1tb limit. This was still overcome by using 2 partitions in the box of 1tb each, and using symlinks between the partitions... So, I'd imagine if there was a problem with 3tb, you'd still be able to use the full space, just split between partitions...

Ext4 filesystem can support volumes up to 1 EiB so I would imagine 4Tb drives will be fine

I wasn't sure if there might be a limitation in the VU+ hardware, but I guess not. 4tb is a bit too expensive still, so I'll probably go for a 3tb drive instead.

Thanks.

You can fit an awful lot on a 3Tb drive, even if it is all HD :)

Took the plunge and went with a 4tb Seagate after finding the external USB ones a good few £ cheaper than the internal bare bones ones. I understand it's the same HDD inside the USB case as can be bought stand alone bare bones. Not sure how they can sell the USB ones cheaper, given the additional hardware involved???

I can verify a WD green 3TB (WD30EZRX) works in the Duo2, shows as 2794GB remaining.

Cool. I should also be able to verify 4tb in the next couple of days.

Sorry. Only just noticed your post. I bought a Seagate STBV4000200 from Amazon for £125.

I can also confirm that the 4tb SATA drive which I stripped out from the external USB Seagate STBV4000200 works fine on the Duo2 :) It's reported as a 3.82TB drive in the device info screen.

Hi,
Is it possible to post the drive model number for this please?

I'm looking at potentially putting a 4TB into a duo 2. I have a Samsung HD204UI in my Ultimo and that has been flawless. I read that the 5400 speed drives are best suited to DVR's.

Cheers, Lee

The internal HDD model number is ST4000DM000. On Amazon it's still cheaper to buy the external drive and remove the HDD from the case.

Hi,
Can the 3Tb/4Tb posters advise how the drives are performing. I've got the Duo2 now, with my 2Tb drive in, but would like to make the move to a 3Tb or 4Tb.

Any updates would be appreciated.

Cheers, Lee
