Be very, very careful when flashing the bootloader guys, done in-correctly you could brick your receiver.

This is marked as a public beta. Apparently blind scan works again.

A beta is a beta; so I would take aboard sponsors warning.

will this be added to vix? or will you be waiting for final?

Too soon to say: give us a chance to test please?

I was warning people that it was beta - not suggesting it was safe :)

I, personally, will be waiting until the weekend before I do anything

I did mine just only to verify it is actually 3.8.3 and to see if the new bootloader works.
I have no notion of testing OpenMips :p I'll wait for VIX ;)

This thread has been cleaned up, and all rubbish removed...

Rossi, please do not keep posting off topic in to this thread, and being insulting towards staff... Otherwise, further infractions will be issued...

Does anyone have the official procedure on flashing the bootloader on the Quad?

I'm not going to flash the bootloader anyway until it's absolutely necessary to run the latest build of VIX.

I just think if its quite a risky procedure and easy to brick the box it could save a lot of heartache in the long run.

Early reports from GB support:

1. Picture quality is not as good as latest 3.3.6 driver
2. A few people have bricked (recoverable) - suggestion is USB pen drive incompatibility and just try again with different drive
3. Blind scan works, DVB-c work
4. Ethernet speeds are slower
5. 51% bug is re-introduced.

So definately not worth getting too excited about yet - it IS after all a beta

Same as flashing an image.

I thought it would be Marty as thats how the Vu's are done. Just the warnings in the thread earlier made me wonder if some voodoo was involved also :)

No need to sacrifice a goat of chicken  But flashing a bootloader is always a potential major problem (like flashing a PC BIOS) get it wrong and you have an expensive doorstop

I'm interested to know what has changed to require a new boot loader. It usually means a fundamental function / feature has changed in the chipset.

If it is in German point me at the board/post and I'll translate. My German isn't what it was but I'm competent

It seems it can allow a flash of up to 200mb, most likely only needed for TeamReds bloated image ;) the rootfs alone is near 145mb  compared to VIX's 52mb (OpenMips is aprox 105mb)

Just had a quick read. The 'plan' seems to be to fix the bugs and go to a release version on Friday. There are STILL people expecting gigabit LAN and bluetooth keyboard support

Waiting? I suppose that's one word for it :roflmao:
Quad will be obsolete before its available :p
For me their word carries no weight at all (maybe GB should go into politics :p )
