View Full Version : [VU+ Solo2] 4oD
Just tried using 4oD but its now missing the sections, only search and back are present.
This is on build 683. Tried on my Ultimo with 683 and same issue?

Yeah, I can confirm I'm getting the same results!
The feeds must have changed resulting in a parse error. I will take a look tomorrow if I get a chance..
Not looking good as it looks like 4OD have changed the source feeds for the PS3, don't know what the new ones are just yet...
This is the message we now get from the current feeds URL:
26879
i hope we will have back online 4OD , its by far my favorite OnDemand channels

Im guessing it might not just be a simple category edit this time?

Its certainly looking that way.

Bad news I'm afraid, 4OD won't be back any time soon :(
I can't even get the new 4OD app installed on my PS3 to see if I can find out what the new URL's are, perhaps its as I'm in Ireland and its not available here.
Unless someone can install this in the UK on the PS3 and see if it displays any URL's, be a starting point.. Nothing else I can do I'm afraid..
oh man thats a really bad news :(

I don't have a ps3, but the mobile site is http://m.channel4.com/4od/tags I don't know if anyone can extract the url's from that site.

And from that link you go to the FAQ, stating that most contents should be available world wide .See

But what's worse:
http://www.channel4.com/4viewers/faq/name/other-media-players/id/400290582
shows that Flash is required .....

mm well this is a bummer. So how is it These boxes cant get flash on them?? Also would the Xbox 4OD app help you out
Hi Rob,
Click on the "File Types" tab. Check the boxes for "Windows Media File (asf)", "Windows Media Audio file (wma)", and "Windows Media Video file (wmv)".
is also bad for most E2 user.

Indeed: WMV is only supported by ET's and a couple of DreamBoxes.

I managed to get the 4OD app installed on my PS3 (created a UK user account) but the bad news is that it doesn't display any details of what URL's etc. it is using..
Anyone know of a good way to interrogate what traffic is passing through your router? Perhaps be able to see what the URL's are this way?

Would Wireshark do it?
In my opinion, the further development of this plugin should be more hushus from now on.
Do not openly reveal the tricks you are using.
Hi,
wireshark would only be an option when a hub is used for PC and PS3 because a switch does not send packets to all ports. A managed switch would be an alternative. I just bought a simple managed switch for €50.
ciao
Back in the days of ps3 hacking i used to use this method to proxy my ps3 thru my pc using a program called PS3.ProxyServer.GUI.exe
so im wondering if when the ps3 is proxying via pc then wireshark could then capture the info?
Instructions for configuring proxy on your PS3 console
1. In the console, go to Settings-> Network Settings Then go to Internet Connection Settings.
It choose: Custom-> Auto-Detect> IP Address setting: Manual
IP Address: the first 3 numbers must match that of your local connection in your PC (For example, if your local address is 192.168.1.100, 192.168.1.X must place, where X any number above 100)
Subnet Mask: The same for your computer (usually 255.255.255.0)
Default Router: 192.168.1.1 if using router (check the address of the router if you have one) if they are connected to the PC via crossover cable, see Gateway in the Control Panel
Primary DNS: Set the local address of your PC
Secondary DNS: You can use the same IP Router Default.
2. MTU Automatic. (Not relevant in this case).
3. Proxy Server -> Use
Address: The address of your local PC
Port Number: 8080 or that you've changed PS3.ProxyServer.GUI.exe Instructions
4. UPnP: Disable (If you have a router, can take on, is irrelevant in this case).
5. Accept Changes
No need to test connection

Ah, I think all this is Wireshark beyond my knowledge, leave it to the experts..
If someone manages to figure it out then post the url's..

Probably a very dumb question, but worth a try: is simply going to the website http://www.channel4.com/programmes/4od and clicking on several programs not revealing the URL (structure)?

The media file info is not accessible from the main ch4 website, why ps3 site was used. This could be the case for the new app too.. A wait and see thing!!
ok so i got proxy and wireshark working BUT i cant seem to login to playstation network, so means i cant use 4od until i can login.
but anyway ive got these bits n pieces so far as i though ok then lets rip down the ps3 4od PKG file:
http://ares.dl.playstation.net/cdn/EP4449/NPEB01271_00/fooRpHGdnDoogomXfhJzIbMIsPyhoahaZYZkWqeUrcnJbnSBTY AYGcJgpepwBMkUWufOnDQDvzxZxCEKSVniFHJGAQVcfYkpOUNN x.pkg?product=0087&country=gb
so i unpackaged the pkg and the files in the prx folder seem the ones especially libHttpMemStream.sprx and libsceavplayer.sprx
self sprx opener:
_http://www.ps3hax.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=278
I can see bits and bobs displayed when decoding sprx file but thats about it (sprx are like dll files)
If i can get any further i will keep you posted, if anybody can help me get logged into psn we will get somewhere for sure.

Can you get your computer or laptop to share it's internet connection? To do this, you will need 2 net access points on the computer. For myself, I used a laptop,, with it's wireless and lan point. I have the wireless connected to the internet through router, and then go in to change network connections. Right-Click on the wifi (in my case), and choose properties. Then, go to "sharing", and tick Allow other network users to connect through this computers internet connection". Then, choose the connection you want to share it with:
27036
Then, connect a crossover cable from your ps3 to your Ethernet port on laptop, and it should connect as if connected to your router (albeit lower pings and maybe lower connection speed). Then, you can use wireshark to monitor all network activity...

I think all those c4assets url's contain the actual stream data, like the old player used to do. I need the site url (catchup/categories/a-z etc.) so that a new menu and all that could be developed. Might be a big ask though..

Nah, we used be able to extract the data from the ps3.channel4.com URL's to get the required menu/stream data..
Not to worry, somebody better than me will hopefully figure this one out, I'm outta ideas :(

hmmmmm!
It can be seen from the log that the new PS3 4oD player is using Http Dynamic Streaming, you're not going to get around that any time soon.
However the PS3 videos that work in the old version of the player are still being generated, at least for the time being.
There are different asset urls for each platform. The asset ids (e.g. 3537973) of a particular episode are usually in the same region for different platforms (within 250 or so). For example the asset url for the PC version of "New Girl", Season 2, Episode 14 is http://ais.channel4.com/asset/3537959, and the old-style PS3 version is at http://ais.channel4.com/asset/3537952.
The solution then is to start with asset url for the PC version (which can be gotten from the 4od website) and check the urls in the region of the website asset id until the PS3 version is found (trial and error), unless we can figure out how to get the correct asset id directly.
@Spinifex: Can I get a copy of that pcap? I won't know if it's useful to me until I've had a look at it. Something that would definitely be useful is a list of the 4od programmes that are available on PS3. Probably the easiest way of generating that list would be to create a wireshark log (like the one you posted on Thursday) but this time going through the 4od A-Z list from beginning to end, without going into any of the programmes. Would you be able to do that for me please?

will post back later, ill go into a then b and c and so on....
ill post up a link list and ill send u a pcap download link too.
if you mean the ps3 selftool here it is
Nope, I mean this -
I also have a full wireshark pcap available on request to only those in the know.
... but thanks anyway.
@Spinifex Thanx
Right ive done it (99%)
Only problem is i cant get bloody S to work it just locks up the 4od and spins and nothing more so got all the rest, (there is no z or x programmes anyway)
The pcaps are fairly big so ill upload them somewhere and pm you!
Let us know if these text links help in anyway because to me they just show images!
pcap may say more havnt checked yet.
'S' was captured in the pcap anyway, so no problem there.
Text files work fine, thanx.
so all of this work is good news i hope ?
I'm developing a fix for the XBMC 4oD plugin, which can be used as the basis for somebody to fix it here (or they may be doing that already if they have seen the solution I described previously).

Cheers Mossy, legend as usual!
I don't know of anyone else looking at a fix anyway! Are you going to be using the PC site as the driver to obtain the asset ID's and programme details?
I might leave it to I see how exactly you are thinking of approaching it if you don't mind..
Yes I'll be using the PC site to get the basic details and trial and error to go from the website asset ids to the PS3 asset ids.
I don't mind how you (or anybody else on any platform) goes about copying/not copying my stuff. Aint nuthin' to do with me boss!
i see the old style 952 has died, either they change the numbers about or its been killed off?
I did have a play yesterday myself (watch it!) and noticed you get the relation asset id too lol
basically must mean where it is originally before its split between xbox,ps3,pc and whatever else.
@ mossy whats the latest have u made any progress on your fixes?
Looks like they're gradually removing all the ps3 asset urls.
That puts the kybosh on my efforts. I got nothing.

So..... since this idea seems to be flummoxed then dont you think its time we started looking at flash for the browsers!!!!
Especially for solo2 users.
If i can manage to get flash working on an android phone when they discontinued it im sure there must be a way to get flash working on the most decent box on earth solo2?
any news guys about 4oD ?
Just what you can already see in this thread, seems this issue is going to be extremely hard to fix if at all, so 4od may be a thing of the past for enigma2 boxes as a result.
Hi I'm not incredibly knowledgeable on the subject but was hoping somebody on here could help - I read a news article a few days ago that stated 4od was now available via Freesat Freetime, the article states "<free time> was built on the widely adopted European open standards for hybrid TV; including elements of HbbTV and HTML 5 browser technology."
I've never used HbbTV but I don't see any special options when tuned to Channel 4 so is this something which is incompatible with current enigma boxes?
http://www.vodprofessional.com/news/2q2013/4od-launches-on-freesat/
I know nothing about the workings of HbbTV as none are available 28.2E for the moment. However E2 & ViX does support it, so I'll leave it to someone else who uses it on another sat to comment on that.
As for the '<free time>' mentions, I'd presume/guess that's down to closed source boxes paying a licence for now, but hopefully could be wrong?
4OD worked fine up till recently using the OnDemand plugin in the ViX feeds.
Changes made to the service make it un-useable for now though...

The link only reveals that 'Freetime' is (a.o.) build on 'elements of HbbTV'.
So no: this is not HbbTV.
I don't understand why the UK providers all spend so much money on developing their own system, while a free to use European System with a proven track record is readily available

Maybe because they don't want systems to be able to be retrieved foc! If it's their own system, they can charge box manufacturers to buy their system... even if it did cost more than they will retrieve from selling it...
