I received a Vu+ Wifi USB-dongle with my Vu+ Ultimo. How can I install it in my Vu+ Duo?
The driver is not in the Plugin-driver list. The installation disc has a Linux driver rtl 8192CU, also as a file rtl8192CU_linux_v2.0.939.20100726.tar.gz. How to install this driver?

The driver is pre-installed on ViX images. Just plug the dongle in and restart the box.

Yes. I remembered now that it is not that simple but more complicated. Fixed cable LAN must be connected together with the Wlan-USB device. Otherwise the installation cannot be initiated. Then it starts working and the LAN-cable can be disconnected again. Now it works for me.

Menu > Set Up > System > Network > Network Wizard..

Just got through the questions asked.. and all will be fine..

Yeah, and no need for a LAN-cable at all.
That is: if the drivers are on the box. And the drivers for the VU-stick are pre-installed, so that indeed is the case.

The driver is there. But it doesn't start working just like that. I have never managed to start a new USB Wi-Fi dongle without first connecting LAN. That wizard just says "no internet connection". The configuration works only when connected to internet. It has been the fact for me. Always. Once started, LAN can be disconnected.

Personally.. i have never had an issue with wifi dongles..

Never needed LAN for set up..

It's alright. It doesn't bother me now when I know it. Anyway, it works! And thank you for the excellent Vix-work. I admire it. Keep on going!

Wifi drivers are no longer included in images. You have to downlod them after plugging in your ethernet cable.

I wish the drivers could be downloadable from openvix.co.uk

WiFi-drivers are no longer pre-installed as the overhead turned out to be too big.
Adding the drivers to the download-section didn't work out, because the drivers are different for each box for each dongle. That means it would be a major job to maintain that section. We tried, but that's how it is.

I've got no LAN connection at home as it hasn't been installed yet (new house).

Could I put the drivers on a pen drive and install via the box?

Sometimes it does not work as there are dependencies.

Might be an idea for someone with same image as you to flash an virgin image, download and install drivers and then upload a backup image for you.
