I seem to have a problem recording

I was wondering if it was because I am still using a external HDD

I set the timer to go , and it normal stops after 1 hour.

As you can imagine with a movie that is a pain.

But i can restart it if i catch the stop.

I have looked at the settings but cant see how to extend it if it is a setting

any ideas

What file system is the HDD using? If fat32, you are limited to 4GB filesize

What format is the HDD?

EDIT: as Abu suggests, sounds like you might be using a fat32 formatted drive.
Initialise it in the box & recrding more than 4GB or roughly an hour of HD should be fine.

I feel so dumb as I didnt think of it like that, yes fat32 so you are right 4gb which is a hour of HD.

What is the answer, reformat the drive on the solo2 to the ext4 ?

Yeah, initialise it in the box, so it will format as EXT4.
Menu -> Setup -> System -> Hard disk -> Initialisation.

If it's mounted already, you should unmount it first.
Blue button -> ViX -> Mount Manager -> yellow button.

I have a couple of things on there for the kids.

On my mac it doesnt see ext4

Is there a way to convert the recording to a more universal format like mp4?

So i can save it for them

thanks

Your Mac can still read an EXT4 drive mounted as a netork share or via FTP or streaming, no need to convert files unless you really want to?

To FTP 5gb will take some time via wifi? Back to the box?

How would I convert?

Then she can keep on her laptop.

Thanks

Strangely hard drive is no longer in setup/system.
