Dont you just need to plug it in...There is a list of models out there. As sic asks, what model have you bought...?

If this works the same as on a Dreambox, and I've no way of telling because like most of our customers I don't have a VU+ here to try, but if it does you need a compatible dongle that uses the RT73 or ZD1211B chipset.... You then need to enable the driver in linux kernel:

setup > system > settings > kernel modules > then RT73 to yes

I've seen the wireless driver could be downloaded on PLi for the short time I had one of the VU+ DUO to play with, so my guess would be to try the PLi image first. Be great if anyone could test this out for us!

I have found this list of dongles from another forum:

Does that look like the correct model? Compare the models to the list that was kindly provided by *********. Have a look on google too.

I picked one of the belkin dongles and found on eBay. See below.

Search for info on the chip in the alpha, it may just be compatible.

If you've already got a dongle and not sure I'd open the case up and look at the number on the chip, should soon tell you if it's going to be any good for this or not.... Can someone confirm the options are even there on the VU+ menu for this kernal though, not got one here to try :(

I look into it, i've seen some info somewhere about WIFI on the VU+ Duo. Will report back.

it is also reported on some forums that some usb dongles would work on VTI image and not PLi

I think best advised as well for anyone wanting to play about with this please make sure you do a backup first before enabeling this kernal or in worst case it could mean your VU+ won't boot and needs a reflash, this is just until we've had a few more people try this out and have a better idea of what works and what don't, better safe than sorry!

Use either Dream Elite 1.3 or VTI 0.8. Power off the receiver. Plugin USB wifi adapter. Boot receiver and navigate to Network settings and select the wireless adapter. You will see options to scan and enter your encryption key.

Goto network settings. You will see two options, wired or wireless. Make sure a green tick goes in wireless and select it. That will then take you into the options.

Enable DHCP option. That way it will find its own correct settings.

Have you tried re-booting?

To find the the correct network settings check your router ip config. Different router use different ip ranges. Nameserver and ip address depends on your router.

yes i have restart my box many times and also i've tried to put the same setting(ip address &nameserver) from my router to the receiver and it doesn't work !

Sicilian

Have you selected the encryption method that suits your router? WPA, WEP, WPA2 etc...You might have to change the encryption on your router to suit what the VU+ Duo will use.

bobonthejob
20-04-10, 10:32
can you set the IP on the reciever for your USB and then start of a ping from the computer to that IP. Remeber the IP of your USB has to be in the same range as the one of the router.

ie. your router may be 192.168.2.1 you will then need to setup the box to have an IP of 192.168.2.x (x being any number between 2 and 254).

Im not sure how the config work to actually successfully conncet to your router...but once you are connected id get DHCP to assign the IP.

bobonthejob
20-04-10, 10:33
What router do you have?

Sicilian
20-04-10, 10:44
I think the reason why abdullaziz is not getting an IP when using DHCP is because the VU+ isn't actually connecting to his wifi router, hence why it's not getting an IP.

You need to make sure your connecting to your wifi router, the correct encryption matches your router and you enter your encryption key correctly.

bobonthejob

@sic - is there a wizard that is used? to connect to the router? Id have thought the box supports the common security protocols.

But yeah - i agree seems that he is not connected to the router.

WIFI is not yet enabled with VIX 1.0.

Thanks for informing me. Once a new image comes does that mean all my settings and configuration would need to be redone once I install a new image.

Can I not download an EXTENSION or PLUGIN to enable a WIFI dongle to work on the VIX Image?

Does anyone know when the VIX Image will incorporate this capability? It would be extremely useful.
