vu+solo 2 hard drive initialisation

Hi, having problems with the installation of w.d. 750 gb sata 2.5 inch hard drive. bought from dabs via ebay, it fails on initialistion every time I try to install it. initiallly i thought it was a fault on the new drive, but tested it by trying a usb flah drive as staorge device. this too failed to initialise. box is a vu solo2 running the latest vix image.
Anyideas out there?
