is there a way to increase the ram or virtual ram on duo

The only thing you can do is create a swap file assuming you have a hard disk or usb stick mounted.

In vix you can do that by pressing the blue button then choosing vix and choosing the swap manager.

how can you make that bigger than 256 MB

I think you can make it bigger by creating a swap file manually from a telnet prompt
