Was surprised when trying to play some varied content via a USB mounted HDD that the TM2 locked up on a standard MP4 video (old tv series file).

Content on that same device that was recorded by the TM2 plays fine so it's not a hardware issue.

Any driver updates or media player upgrades I can try guys? The next thing I was going to try was a 3d mkv but ran out of time, will that be ok?

Thx

Hi,
there is no "standard MP4". DivX and XVid are also MP4 and they have so many parameters and not every file encoded in MP4 can be played by most STBs. Use the PC program MediaInfo to check whats in the file and post the output for video here.

If MediaInfo shows the usage of QPEL or GMC you have a problem.

3D mkv only if it has max. 1920x1080 with SbS. The BluRay format MVC (multi view coding) will not work.

ciao

OK had time to do a more comprehensive test, its a bit hit and miss. AVI extensions all fine thus far, 'some' MP4 run trouble free - some not at all. I appreciate MP4 is a fairly generic term with differing structures thoughso I need to get my head around which is which - or use a decent video converter - or choose my ISO file extensions more carefully . I also tried M4V - no good.

I'll make up a little grid and post it after I've done a lot more trials and can be confident I'm not posting rubbish.

I don't want this to taint my (your) impressions of the box though - so far it's been great, in all honesty I did not buy it with any big intention of adding 'third party' recordings to the video library. Fact is the box is so good, great build quality, with good RF out to my bedroom - an excellent free & almost fully functional IPHONE remote - great picture - OnDemand player - top EPG - 3d tv support and all the while streaming tuner 'B' to the kids room on WebIf via HomePlugs (not as smoothly as I'd like yet - may be asking for help there).

I've done a lot with it in just a week and in my first Linux adventure to boot - very happy thus far.
