struggle to mount external HD

Hi there,
i just got a new TM -Single and i am very very very impressed with this machine. however i have struggled to mount the external HD so that i can enjoy PVR features. Can you please help. as have formated my HD as FAt 32 which was defaulted as NTFS but still no joy!

When you plug the external HD into the box can you format it there? best to format it as ext 3 or 4 to use all PVR features.
Also, what image & build number are you using?
