can i ask which external hdd i can buy that operates on a linux system so i do not need to do much other than plug and play etc

i have vu duo plus (and using vix 1.1 image brilliant image by the way boys )

By an external HDD that has its own PSU.

You can buy any of the recomended HDD, there is a thread about it if you search,i use a samsung which works well and is very quiet.
It is ony a file structure that changes on the HDD depending what OS you use.
You can format the drive to whatever format you want using partition magic or any similar software

As Sic says, buy one that has it's own psu... I would also recommend to use an e-sata drive, as it's much better performance wise than usb, and will also have (likely) a usb port on the enclosure also...

I had a freecom quattro that worked well...
