Hi all,

I have ViX3 on my 2 Vu+ duos. They currently doesn't have internal hard drives, just USB sticks for epg and time shift.

I have a HP N40L Microserver that I would like to record to centrally from both boxes (and possibly more boxes in future) hence why I haven't bought hard drives. After a lot of googling, I can't find a step by step guide to doing it. I did find an archived forum where someone questioning if it can be done to a NAS. There was a reply from someone called "Maxwell" saying "Yes, I'm doing it fine on WHS2011".

I was just browsing this forum and saw that there's a mod called Maxwell and I'm making this post in the hope that he's the same guy and that he holds the knowledge I desperately require. Or anyone else for that matter :)

Thanks in advance.

PS. I'd also like to be able to access all of my Serviio library on my server on my Vu+ too, but I guess that's a discussion for another thread.

Yes it was me but I havent used WHS2011 for quite a while now and am struggling to remember the details (old age you know )

On the server you need to setup a couple of new adminstrative users one for each of your boxes and make sure that they have full rights to read and write, also create a couple of logical drives that are fully shared. Use the computer management console to manually set it up and not the stupid interface they built in or you will be restricted in setting the options.

Think Pheonix wrote a guide on here somewhere on how to setup the boxes to use a network drive, will see if I can find a link but in the meantime here is a windows 7 guide to setting up a share that may help, its very similar to whs2011, so once you can get the box to read from the server its just a matter of getting it to write to it.

You can also google for windows server 2008/r2 as that is essentially the same as whs2011, lots of the guys using dedicated media streamers use servers so lots of info out there

Sorry its a bit vague but been a long time

Thank you very much Maxwell :)

I'll hopefully get to the bottom of it now. I think it is more down to my lack of server knowledge.

By "logical drives" do you mean setup a VHD in computer management?
