Need info

I am so new to this it smells. Currently use a patched TM. Need some advice please: Terminology here is, I guess, as used by Windows users. I use a Mac laptop which sets me back.
Is any specific S/W needed ? If so I will buy Windows 7 to use and the required software. Alternatively is it possible to run from a Mac which is based on Unix. Any help to get me off the ground would be appreciated.

You shouldn't need any windows software unless you ever need to use VuUtility, but doubt that you will need to as most use the USB method.
