the image that is installed uses some of the flash memory and there is a plugin called "flash expander" in the vix feeds where you can expand it to as much as you want if you have installed a hdd or usb memory stick

some of it is used in order for the box to run. for example you buy a 2tb hardrive and you only get 1.77tb

That's a different story: that's because of using the 1000 or 1024 (1 MB = 1000KB or 1024KB etc).

But as has been repeatedly answered to the same question: only RAM in userspace shows up; system reserved memory can't be 'seen' by the user.
