Is there any downsides to getting the Technomate TM-2T over the Vu DUO? I wan't a dual tuner box that runs VIX. Or are there any other options I could consider?

Thanks!

PS will the TM-2T take a full size internal HDD?

The VU Duo can play/pause/ff/rw most media formats including the new ondemand players, the TM-2T is currently a bit of a nightmare in this area.
Other than that, I wouldn't see any downsides in buying a TM-2T.

RTE/TV3/BBC/ITV plugins currently in their infancy but mostly working, scattered about the forums.
Do a search & you should find them.

the 2T can only take a 2.5" hdd.

Does the box support recordings from deep sleep (I ask as the Twin doesn't).

Yes the TM-2T supports deep standby timers.

isn't the Gigablue cheaper than this though?

yes the Gigablue is cheaper then the Technomate 2T but the The gigablue receivers are dual tuners not Twin tuners by this i mean with the 2T you can watch oce channel while recording another through the second tuner, with the Gigablue 800SE and 800UE you can only use one tuner at a time not both so you only have a Dual tuner receiver in these.

Yeah, records from deep sleep fine on the few tests I've done.
TBH, it's my favourite PQ box for live TV, recordings, playback of .ts files, networked or local...
It's a pity it craps out on other media formats though, hopefully fixed with driver updates soon.
Currently, I plug out the TM boxes & plug in a cheaper Extrend 4000 if I want to watch other media formats networked & saved on a VU box.
Pause/RW/FF is almost instant on the ET4000 of all files I've thrown at it, pressing pause on the TM2T on anything other than a .ts file is a shagging nightmare.

TM-2T = £220
Vu Duo = £270

I was planning on taking the old SKY HD HDD out and using that in a vu duo. If the TM 2T won't take it then the cost builds to around the same price.

If you're into cost saving do what I done, buy a 2nd hand 250gb hdd cheap on Ebay for £24ish swap it for the sky HD one, which should be minimum 500GB. Place that in your new tuner and sell the sky HD box on Ebay, you should get about £50 quid. That way you've Made money and got a 500 GB hdd.
