Does anyone know if my missus can apply for a auto driving license and take lessons for auto only?

i believe that you used to be able to, not sure if thats the case any more

Pretty sure you still can

you get the normal provisional and if you pass the test in an auto that is all you can drive solo, you still retain provisional entitlement for a manual so if at a later date she wanted to drive a manual she would have to resit the test.
Far better to just do the test in a manual and once passed can drive both
