excellent thats what i wanted to hear any particular varieties used as i think the one i saw was a western digital and does spin speed be important?

Spin speed is of no importance at all: the through-put speed of any drive will be more then sufficient.
What is important however is the bandwidth of your network. If a couple of HD-recordings are active and you're watching a recording as well, bandwidth can easily be too small.
