Recording issue

Hi ,I don't normally record on my vu+ so I am a newbie to it but the other day I recorded something on a hd channel (dont no if this makes a difference) for an hour and it used only 4gig of data, recorded half an hour of boxing last night and it used 9 gig? Why is this. Also can I change the format of what it downloads in so I can fit more on my hdd thanks.

2nd part no, first part I think even though they say HD, the bit rate is higher on Sky than it is on the likes of BBC ITC etc and so file size is bigger.

So what you are saying is it all depends on the screen resolution

Not just on screen resolution, also on the bitrate, audio-stream(s) and additional data such as TT.
After all a recording contains all data that has been transmitted.
