At the moment build 521 is online. Although it is possible to do an online update to that version, you only get it's full functionality by flashing your STB.
A settings restore can be used, so you'll be up & running again in a couple of minutes.

NB: The main reason for this advise is to overcome a number of playback issues we had in the latest builds.

The Ultimo uses 'R/C code 2' by default. Are you sure your R/C uses that as well (the DUO- R/C is using code 1)?

So if you don't, what functionality is missing and will this continue in future builds i.e at some point will we have to reflash?

So if you don't, what functionality is missing
Mainly related to playback (of several kinds of video-files, no problem for playback of recording).

Yes.

Flash & restore is done under 10 minutes.

Now build 534 is online. Is it now possible to go from build 516 direct to 534 online
or is it still necessary to flash build 521 first?

Again: don't update online from a build <521. So atm flashing 534 is the way to go.
