HDD external matter than is driving me to suicide

external hdd madness

i am using open pli image...
i have formatted my external drive using Hirens to ext 3...
i have plugged it back into machine using usb at rear..
i cannot find the drive and nothing is showing in menu...

can someone explain why and how i can rectify this

this is what i get when i telnet - mount
root@vuduo ~ # mount
rootfs on / type rootfs (rw)
/dev/root on / type jffs2 (rw)
proc on /proc type proc (rw)
tmpfs on /dev type tmpfs (rw)
devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw)
sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw)
usbdevfs on /proc/bus/usb type usbfs (rw)
/dev/mtdblock2 on /boot type jffs2 (ro)
tmpfs on /var type tmpfs (rw)
tmpfs on /tmp type tmpfs (rw)
fuse on /media/upnp type fuse (ro,nosuid,nodev,user_id=0,group_ id=0)

this is what i get when i telnet ls /dev/sd*
root@vuduo ~ # ls /dev/sd*
ls: /dev/sd*: No such file or directory

any ideas before i jump :baby:
