As the title says :)
Best LINUX OS for noob?
I just instralled Ubuntu 12.10 is this OK or is there something better out there?
generally the Ubuntu line of images i find are the best for newcomers and old hands alike. I use both Kubuntu or Ubuntu via a multi boot setup.
I had a good play with Ubuntu yesterday, it wasn't too bad.
WEBIF streaming seemed alot better than on W7, I always get crappy HD streaming on W7 but on Ubuntu it was perfact :)
I don't think I'll replace Windows but a duel system is ideal (I have a caddy and a few spare HDD's ideal for testing other OS's)
Yeah, I'd agree with pheonix, Ubuntu is probably the best for a newbie.
I do prefer using the Gnome remix version though.

Only thing lacking is a GUI antivirus software,

I'll be giving
http://www.raspbian.org/FrontPage a go on my Pi (can't open it till xmas :( )
I think that is the Pi version of Debian.
Still using Ubuntu at the momment, will try other when I get more time  the mint one looks good.
I've been uisng MINT all morning :D I must say this is defo the BEST LINUX I've tried so far
Very nice!!!!!!!!!
Only thing lacking is a GUI antivirus software,
there is no real need for AV on linux at this point in time as most users do not run as root, so for a virus to install its self it would require the users passcode this makes it hard (not impossable ) for viruses to infect linux based systems, same as the mac.
