solo will not boot from usb

hi all
i have tried a few usb memory stick and all same results
at the moment the solo has BH1.6.6 and is working
but when i put a new image on the usb stick it will not see the stick and startes normaly
so can i flash with somthing else like dreamup (but i think i will need a NFI image?) is so where will i get an NFI image?
any help would be good as i am at my wits end

no not at all

You formatted your USB pen is FAT32.. ??

Then do a google search for HP formatting tool..

Install that on your pc.. and try and format the usb pen again..

Also.. Are you trying to install Vix.. ??

If yes.. where are you getting it from.. ??

yes its formated with fat32 using partion wizard from mini tool
i was trying all images but none seen to get hold of the usb port

yes i have tried 3 diff types now all now work
i have made a log using putty i wonder if the experts can take a look at the frist couple of line to see if it makes sence

i am having the same experience. usb does work with old sony camera card reader but not 4 gig usb sticks (2 of) or 2 gig stick, all formatted exactly the same way and 1 of which was previously working, can be read by laptop on windows and appears normal, i just can't flash the box whatsoever from any of the pendrives. (except flashcard holder sony m2 1g card) any solutions discovered?

Have never had any issues flashing a solo using multiple USB sticks in various formats.
Have you extracted the image correctly on the USB stick?

yep, all the same files, formatted identically, one after another, several tries. i'm going to try kingston brand tomorrow and then assume it's serious if that doesn't work. very frustrating. also having problems with solo losing external hdd after a few days, had that since day one. i'll post tomorrow after ive tried the kingston

Enable debug logs, should help with the loosing hdd issue, not sure about the flashing issue though as I've never had any issues.
Haven't had to use it myself, but have you tried the format tool (http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?45-USB-Format-Tool&p=78&viewfull=1#post78) in this thread?

Just had the same problem myself. Refused to boot from two usb drives that were working fine, no matter how they were used or formatted.

Someone mentioned on another thread that a sandisk cruzer blade worked. Couldn't find one of those locally but i was able to get a cruzer edge - and it worked. Baffles me as to why it's so picky but there you go.
