Hi there,
today mi father finally decided to buy for himself a brand new plasma by Panasonic, the TX-P42UT50E.
I'm setting up the system for him but something is not working as it should.
The tv supports (among others) theese resolutions:
(720) / 60p, 50p
(1.080) / 60i, 50i
(1.080) / 60p, 50p, 24p

I'm in no way able to use 1080 bot interlaced and progressive because of garbage spottered on the screen.
For 1080i tried both 50 and 60 hz
For 1080p only 24p (but the image motion is not fluid it has some short freezes, i really don't know how to say it in english).
Just have a look at the attcched pictures.

No problem at all for 720p @anyrate
Further I noticed that while on the AV setting menu when 720p is choosed, if I cycle between the available rates the TV detects it and pop up the info window.
This not happens for 1080 both i and p.

Another issue:
Duo is set to 720p@60.
when I tune on a SD channel with this resolutions: 720x576i25 the screen flickers.
If i set the DUO to 720p@multi everything is ok.

It seems that imageshack is experiencing issue at present.

Ok mates I found out what was the problem:
my father's previous tv was a CTR so to avoid overscan to cut part of the OSD the position of the OSD was moved and reduced in size.
Restoring OSD to default values removed the artifacts in 1080i.

1080p@24 is just shit.
Even enabling on the TV the 24p smoothing is not as good as 1080i

So it is solved for me.

1080p24 is for media playback not for live TV, as the stream source is 50Hz or 60Hz depending of what sat your watching.

Correct: the 1080-p24/25/30 settings are misleading and shouldn't be available at all. All they do is sending every half-picture twice
Best set to 1080i and use the autoresolution plugin if you want to output p-material (movies) in their original resolution.
