Use a dedicated FTP program to transfer the files to the receiver, then use the built in media player to play them.

You can access the media player on the ViX image by pressing the file or list button which is to the right of the menu button.

Create one and place it in hdd/media ......name it what you like.

For easy navigating I have folders in hdd/movie, such as hdd/movie/photo and hdd/movie/MP3 and hdd/movie/DVD.

Follow-on question:
So I ripped the DVD and put it on the HDD.
I have the following files/locations:
\\VUDUO\Harddisk\DVD\DVDname\DVDname.dvdid.xml
\\VUDUO\Harddisk\DVD\DVDname\VIDEO_TS\ with several *.BUP; *.IFO and *.VOB files
This leaves the Media Player lost - I can display the DVD menu, but it doesn't work. I can play single chapters, but it's guesswork...
What am I missing? Do I need a different file format for playback on the Vu+?

Ripping a DVD is a different story m8,, original post asked about mp4,s..? obviousely DVD rip is in a VOB format not MP4..!! not sure on how to orginise them to play all..instead of individually,, soz, cheers satcat

If in VOB-format it's just a copy of a DVD; that will play fine using the build in mediaplayer of ViX (don't use any mediaplayer plugin). Click on the video folder and the DVD will be played (including the menu).
