View Full Version : Ariva 52E - WiFi- 'Connection Failed'

I have Ferguson's WiFi W02 Adapter, and a Ferguson Ariva 52E HD Receiver.

After turning security key off, I now finally have an internet connection between my Ariva 52E and Router (shows WiFi Device : On (Connected), and a signal strength of 75%.

When i set DHCP to 'On', i get 'STB successfully got an IP'. However, when i go to YouTube, Web TV, and download some programs (which then appear on the right), i get 'Connection Failed' when i select a program.

When i try 'YouPorn', i don't get any dowloads...it just says ' Network is not available'.

As i can download some programs in WebTv, and have signal strength to Router of 75% (although i get connection failed/can't view them), i can at least get this far now, so there must be just some setting to change in the Ariva 52E... but what?

Finally, is there a way of re-setting my password in the Ariva WITHOUT doing a Factory Reset?

I really would appreciate some help!

thanks in advance,

Cant help with this one, only have 102E & Mini and a 202E.

What firmware are you using? Did you input your wifi key correctly and wait for it to obtain an IP address?

No, i was told on ferguson's homepage to turn off the security key (on pc they mean). Since then i have got connection with my router, and my receiver finds it's own IP adress. However, i still can't view the videos i download... just get 'connection failed' when i click on them.

My software version says V.17B8, and mentions a newer version is available (v.1.19B1). I've tried downloading this newer version, but the download just gets stuck at 85%.

Should i download this newer version, or is there a better 'patch' that won't kill my receiver, and maybe give me better WiFi connection?

Here's is what Ferguson say on the Wi-Fi W02:-

Hope we can help eachother with this!

Download the official and flash via USB. Youporn is currently awaiting a fix in next week or so.

Just checked, looks like Youtube has an issue right now. Will need to wait for firmware update. Dailymotion all fine.

After eventually getting my Ariva 52E to work with my Ferguson WiFi W02 Adapter (original signal strength appx. 75%), i cannot get a network connection AT ALL now for some reason!

I uploaded the newest software V1.20B1_20120925, which DID get the network to work at last, though sporadically.

I did get downloads on YouTube & YouPorn working (though not all the time), but cannot even connect up to network at all now!

Maybe i just have a Network Setting to adjust in my menus?

Can anyone help me please?

thx

Wish I could, but have only used the 102E + Mini and 202E.

I'd guess its down to signal strength, your most likely using the rear port. Use a USB extension cable to connect the WiFi dongle so its not restricted at the rear of the receiver.

Do you mean that if i connected a USB cable, then i could have my WiFi adapter in end of that, and nearer my router (for better signal strength)?

Otherwise, i was wondering if there is such a thing as a USB - Network cable? Then i could just connect my receiver DIRECTLY to my router, without using the Wifi adapter.

Any thoughts?
thanks

Use a Openmedia Wifi Bridge works a treat:thumbsup:

Might it be your wifi encryption. Maybe try setting it as an open network temporarily, and see whether it allows you to connect when setup like that?!

Try the Tenda available from our Sponser World of satellite,:)
I have the Ariva 102e mini fitted behind the TV in the bedroom with the router been downstairs, i did purchase the ferguson Wi-fi but the signal
strength wasnt strong enough and it kept dropping the conection, Purchased the Tenda unit and it works a treat set it as Client plus AP and now
have full strength Wi-fi up stairs as well as down, using this tenda unit also keeps your USB port available for any recording that you may want to do.

i've disabled encyption in Windows, which did get it all to work, though it strangely won't connect up again now...weird!

I STILL cannot get a proper internet connection with my Ariva 52E & Ferguson W02 Wi-Fi adapter, DESPITE turning encryption off in Windows AND having a good signal strength (76%).

I'm reliably told that buying USB extension cable WON'T make any difference, as even with 10% signal strength, an internet connection works. So even if i get 80-90% signal with an extension cable, this won't make any difference, as i already have a good signal.

If anyone can advise me on how i stop getting 'Connection Failed', or the message 'Timeout', i would be VERY grateful!

I have downloaded the latest software for this box, but maybe further improvements to this are needed for WiFi use?

thanks in advance!

I've merged your 3 threads! You do not need 3 seperate threads for the same issue. If your having that much bother perhaps you should contact where you purchased. In future one thread for same issue is enough please :)

Mate whats the problem ur getting i had alot of bother with my ferguson W02. Ive now managed to get it running on my gigablue with encryption turn on.

you do all the setting up of the device on ur box dont go near ur computer with it lol.

Only thing u NEED to know is u need to make sure u set w02 is set to the SAME encryption system that ur router is set up with so for example

ur router is set for - WEP - u then set ur w02 to wep and then enter the password u use to connect to ur router then it shoud work like a charm.

The mistake i made was i didnt set my encryption to the same as my router

Nope, this didn't work. I set my encryption back to WPA on router (which i HAVE to do on pc, by entering my IP-address on my router's manufacturers 'homepage'), then had the same WPA-setting on my Ariva.

I then put my same WPA key that i have in my router into the Ariva too...no luck ('Time out'). As this didn't work, i then tried to put my router password in the Arivas 'key space', instead of my router's WPA key...same connection failed, time out message.

I have no idea where to go from here. Manufacturer Ferguson say to set encryption to 'None' to prevent WiFi connection problems. Presumeably they mean in BOTH router AND receiver. This is the very first thing i did when i contacted them for the first time, a few weeks ago.

So i'm back to where i started. I have the same encryption ('None') in both router & receiver, and can only access YouTube YouPorn etc occasionally.

If you have any other idea what the problem may be, please let me know!

Thanks!

Done that too, but they still haven't answered the mail i sent 4 weeks ago!!

Such is life, i'll survive.... but it's annoying! Maybe the box isn't ready for Wi-Fi use as it should be.

Hopefully further s/w updates will solve it! The strange thing is, as i said, that i CAN get connection at times, and watch videos, so like Ferguson say, setting the encryption to 'None' HAS helped...but it works just 10% of the time only.

If you hear of any more solutions, please let me know...cheers!

How far is ur box away from router and how many brick walls is it passing thru to get there?

Mines is 8m away and even with door open and its a straight line from router to wifi am in 70s for signal strength which is ballocks.

Theres one othet thing u can try go into ur router config page and see of ur box has been assigned an ip address.

This is the last piece of advice i can get on this matter other than have a look at getting it closer if its passing thru say 2 solid walls in ur house.

Strange, I've tested the 102E, 102Mini and 202E all work spot on with WIFI, should have bought one of those from sponsor ;)

One other thing to try. Change the Wi-Fi channel on the router... Try putting it to 13, see if works, if not, try 11, and so on, gradually working down to see. Have had issues before where changing channel has solved it...

I have just 7 metres to router from my box. Only one 20-30cm thin plaster wall behind my box, then router is situated in cellar immediately at bottom of stairs. The door down to the cellar is always open, so i'm sute it's just a setting issue in the box/router, as my signal strength is always a steady 78%.

but now...maybe my luck is in!

pooface... i have just put channel no. in router from 11 to 13...and BINGO! At least for the moment, i've got wi-fi connection working properly straight away. This could be pure coincidence, as occasionally, i do get a connection.

I'll know in a few hours if this has done the trick!

fingers crossed!

thanks!

How can i get my Ferguson WiFi to work CONSISTENTLY with my Ariva 52E? Have signal strength of 78% (should be enough!), but can't get out on network at all now...YouTube, You Porn, the lot...... just get ' 'Failed connection' all the time.

Changing the channel on router from 11 to 13 DID help, but only for a couple of days. What's happened? Is anyone else having network connection problems?

Can someone please help!

Why do we have to update the s/w in the receiver every time to get Youporn to work, (when the software arrives)?

Will we get access to YouPorn without having to upload software?

hope you can let me know... cheers!

I too have been testing an Ariva 52E and I have same issue as Smasher,
signal strength at 99% ariva says connected to network. On paper the unit is pretty good for the money but the network connection bug is driving me mad one minute its on and next its not.

Anyone got more info on this unit as I am close to chucking it.
