Please help!!!

I have reflashed my Vu+ duo with the latest VIX 3.0 image and everything works fine except for one thing. The hard drive.

I get no option for hard drive under menu--> system--> setup in the drop down.

I can hear the hard drive spinning away so I know its there and my macbook can see it on the home network.

Any ideas please? Do I have to go back to an original image and mount the HDD and then install vix?

Any advice would be appreciated.

ok,..so in menu/setup/system/hard disk

( do not do this if you have important recordings )

is the option there to convert filesystem ext3 to ext4? if so select it or alternitly click on initialisation

you say you can access the drive from your comp, if it shows as a hard drive, can you see the properties of the drive, ie, fat32? or failing that, can you see the file system, ie movies etc

also, just had a thought,...have you restarted the unit since installing the image, and also, do not upgrade the image, ( you can get plugins if you set upgrades to unstable ) as there is a problem with the latest update of the image

they just look like empty drives on my mac network places

is there a way to telnet and wake up the HDD?

alternatively i did read that going back to an original image and initialising the hdd works. have you tried that?

there are no recordings on the drive so not too worried about losing anything

sounds like the drive needs formatting on the comp first,...set the format option to FAT 32 then reinstall it, and the unit will see it..no need to change image

Ok noob time

How do I connect the hdd to the pc to format the drive?

Thanks for all your replies!!!!

either do a temp install,
or if you can connect the drive to an external connection to the comp, (if you can power the drive externally)

i dont think you can format the drive over the network

also i will ask another mod/admin to lok at this thread, as there may be another solution

one thing is sure, your drive at present is not fat 32

thanks mate

i tried with an original image and it still cant see the hard drive. it only listed the flash drive as a storage device.

the hard drive is spinning away so i have either cooked it (wouldnt have thought it would spin if i had) or as you say I need to somehow connect it to a pc to format it and put it back in the box. kinda worried to take the lid off and try that myself though!!!

did you get the unit from world of sats, with the drive pre installed?

ps, I have asked a few others to look at this thread

tzampa

yes i bought the box with the drive pre-installed

basilyoung

ok...where from? and how much was it, is it a new unit? this will help us find your problem

if the drive was preinstalled, i would expect it to work

also, what image are you using?

When you telnet into the box, can you issue a

df
Is anything listed like:

/dev/sda1 488279992 4022880 484257112 1% /media/hdd
If so, you could issue:

mkfs.ext4 /dev/sda1
and let us know the results.

i bought the box new from a company in leicester whose name i wish i remembered. a chap called anthony there was very helpful.

the drive was preinstalled and worked fine until i tried to upgrade to latest OpenViX 3.0.204 from this website.

The box isn't seeing your HDD for some reason so.
Unless someone comes up with any other ideas, I'd reflash.
If that doesn't work, i'd say you are going to have to mount & format it in another PC.

i have reflashed with no joy.

Can someone please talk me through how to mount and format it on another pc?

you simply connect the cable from the drive to the sata connection on the mother board of your comp, or connect to an external sata connection, but in this case, you will need a power supply to the drive

I don't see much point in formatting as the HDD was being recognised and is not. I would RTM as its possiable the hdd is faulty and you may be able to get it to work with a reformat but issue may arise when its out of warranty.
