external hdd?

hi everyone,
i am setting up a vu duo+ that i have just bought and i connected a 1tb external hdd but the box crashes when i try to record. i am a complete newbie to the recording side of things, is it just plug and play or am i missing something, can i even use an external hdd.

By the way a massive thanks to they guys who wrote the sticky for CCcam installation.

make sure it is formatted as FAT32 first then plug into the box, now go to menu>setup>system>hard disk then select initialisation, you should now see it in the list and select it to initialise, this will reformat the drive as ext4, when finished (it will take some time because of the size of drive so be patient) reboot and you should be good to go
