Commercial radio station TalkSport has agreed a new deal to become the official radio broadcaster of Premiership Rugby for the 2012/13 season.

The deal will see TalkSport continue to air live commentary of key Aviva Premiership Rugby matches throughout the season, including the opening London Double Header on September 1 and the finals. There will be both radio and online coverage.

Premiership Rugby will use TalkSport for exclusive news and announcements throughout the season. The station will get branding and promotions for the tournament, including advertising on perimeter boards at the Aviva Premiership Final.

TalkSport's sister publication Sport magazine will also be involved in the deal, including feature interviews with players around key clashes.

Last season, TalkSport was the official broadcaster of the Aviva Premiership semi-finals and final, inclding full match commentary of all three games. The station was also a media partner for Harlequins' Big Game 4 last December.

TalkSport programme director Moz Dee said that the station's rugby lineup has "grown enormously" over the past year, including coverage of the Rugby World Cup in 2011 and launch of the Premiership Rugby show Full Contact.

"With live Barclays Premier League and FA Cup coverage, this season we're broadcasting more live commentary than ever before, and this agreement with Premiership Rugby widens our regular live sport output beyond football," said Dee.

"We're in a great position to bring the highest calibre of live sport to our listeners and attract new sponsors to this exciting proposition."

Premiership Rugby head of marketing and partnerships Dan Kiddle added: "Premiership Rugby was delighted with the way the partnership progressed at the end of last season and the fact that it has now been extended for a full season is a positive sign that the demand for Aviva Premiership Rugby is growing every year.

"Everyone involved in Aviva Premiership Rugby can't wait for the kick-off - at Twickenham Stadium on 1 September - with the traditional London Double Header, and to have TalkSport on board enhances the tournament."

Last week, TalkSport announced plans to once more broadcast Premier League football coverage to UK troops serving overseas, as part of a renewed deal with British Forces Broadcasting Service.
