Should I bother re doing my box? I have updated my box on the latest update a few week ago and when I go to update it has moved to my main menu, when I press on the button to update the box (don't no if they is one there to update or not) the box crashes with the black screen.

Naahhhh, worrying doesn't help you......
You're probably on build 108 that indeed has this bug. You can update via telnet:

init 4 && opkg update && opkg upgrade && init 6
