Hi guys..
A m8 of mine just arrived at my house with a solo he has managed to break..
It had a version of Vix 2.4 on it.. ( Noth sure which build.. as i cant boot it up.. )
Problem is when powered on.. it just sits there with a solid red light..
Wont boot up.. unresponsive with the remote..
I cant even get an IP addy in my router to try wazza`s tutorial..
Any suggestions on what i can do please.. ??
Thanks
Any chance he has a non image usb inserted? Recently my 2.4 image was screwed and it would not boot until i removed a usb stick containing epg, icons etc

He aint got a clue buddy..
He said 1 day it was working.. and the next day it wasnt..
But im at a total lose with this one.. Never seen this before..
Presume you've tried latest boot-loader again?
I've a Solo for over 2 years, thrown everything at it & never managed to brick it.

Hi mate
Try and install with usb stick original manufactures image see if that gets it working again then come forward remembering to update boot loader before installing latest images.

My first try would be to flash the box with a NFI-image, using the VU-tools. The latest NFI-image can be found at
http://code.vuplus.com:8080/listFile?subdir=solo
If that doesn't work, my second try would be to follow these steps (http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?18211-Dead-Solo-Try-this-could-revive-your-Solo&p=132992&viewfull=1#post132992).
If both don't work, my third action would be filling the trash-bin with that box.

Hi Rob,
Thanks for your post..
I dont think i will be able to flash the NFI via Vu Util..
This is due to not being able to get an ip addy..
Also.. Due to no ip displayed in my router.. Wazza`s tutorial is also no good to me..
Its looking like option number 3.. which my buddy will be impressed about.. lol

You're sure about that, exactly following the nfi-flash procedure?

I've got a good skip here you can put it in ;):D
Haven't tried the nfi util, but from what I remember, it never worked with solo anyway, only the duo. Maybe it's been updated?
But option 2 should work... It's connected directly to the box, doesn't use network to do those commands...

I don't have a Solo, so I can't try it, but vu-util_v2.0.1 is supposed to work for all VU boxes.
But indeed: it requires the basics of the box/bootloader to be working.

Use dreambox control centre and the scan network option, if the box has an IP address it will show up in the list.
This is a good network scanner.
If everything with the software is not possible have a look at the PSU for any dodgy capacitors - look for any with the tops bulging or leakage. If you are unsure of what to look for, can you get some close up pics of the PSU components and I will take a look and see if I can spot something or you can send it over to me and I will see if I can find anything.
i would presume you retried to flash it with a few different usb sticks, the one i use flashes inside with a red light so i know something is happening.does he use surge protection:confused:i always do.
