Help streaming from nas to vu+ duo

I have a external hdd western digital ntfs connected to the usb port of my netgear router. It can easily be mounted on my pc but the network browser in Vu cannot find it. It does not have an ip address nor can i set up a share on the pc. How do i go about this as i have movies on the ext hdd that i want to view on my tv via the vu.

Also, wierd problem, whenever i put tv on standby the vu+ receiver says timer and when i turn tv on its on the timer sub menu. Anyway to fix this? I want the vu+ to remain on the channel its on and the tv to go to standby.
