ever since i installed the latest vix image and the latest build, i've had problems with standby.
I've switched all the HDMI related things off so its not controlled by any other source.

the box frequently, after going into standby, freezes, and won't start up again. i press the power button on the remote and get nothing, and have to do a 'hard reset' by switching it off at the back of the box.

sometimes i switch the tv on, and the colours are all saturated and purple, and again, have to do a hard reset.

Its completely fu*Ked basically, and was hoping someone on here knows why.

I did a clean flash and install of the image, and re-initialized the hard drive.

please help

have you tried a scart lead?
have you tried another HDMI lead?
and have you tried another DDMI port on the TV?

Did you setup fresh all settings or did you restore a backup of settings/plugins?

Have you installed any plugins or skins?

exactly the same as my VU-duo was doing (i had no plugins installed other than what came with the image) im now on the version before 2.3 and all is well and has been ever since i changed back ! something is badly wrong with 2.3 in my opinion so untill there is a newer version im staying with the earlier version.:)

well good to know someone else experienced exactly the same thing. im going back to 2.2 as well, never had any issues with that. its a shame though coz i like the new features of 2.3.....but would rather have an image which doesnt completely mess up the box...

I am a bit the opposite of you guys. I have always used Blackhole from the start, i did try the various VIX images but I was getting green screens and always ended up putting BH back on. Well my box was behaving rather erratically with the last 2 BH releases so put the latest VIX in flash.

Im now on day 10 without a hitch. Had a few issues like slow response to button pushes on remote. I think this was due to me using a 250 gig usb hard drive as the device to store epg/picons etc. Once i changed it for a 8 gig flash drive the problem stopped. I did always like the feel of the image and now its not green screening it really is great to use. I think I have been converted . Cant wait for the new release with XBMC like skin.

I get random freezes with Vix 2.3. The freeze usually occurs during the night and the next morning the box is unresponsive to the remote control. It needs a hard boot to bring it back.

I'm having similar problems, just having to live with it for the minute and fingers crossed that a new version of Vix is out soon

i too am having this issue on 2 duo boxes. just as an idea... could it be something to do with automatic standby?

version 2.3 / drivers: 2012-01-18 / kernel 3.1.1

all hdmi stuff turned off.

Im having the same issue on a second box that links to the HDD downstairs. I have a separate USB flash for EPG and Picons. Connected to a Sony Tv that senses and enters standby when the duo is turned off. Going to try setting to a deep shutdown tonight and will see the outcome. Sorry to not be writing a miracle cure for those subscribed but wanted to detail the problem - it maybe we all have a sony TV!! Or something daft like that.

im having exact same issues as OP. im on 2.3, all hdmi cec stuff off. every other morning have to switch box off and on from the back.

im using a panasonic tv and never had thismissuembefore.

i will try the latest iamge and see if that makes a differance.

i definately think it has something to do with the hdmi cec coding

There is a known memory leak issue in the latest kernel on some vu duo boxes.
It has been suggested to use the clearmem plugin.
I have it set to free RAM every 40 mins with notifications turned off and my box has been very stable since I started using it.
I downloaded it from TSPanel>Sim2-Addons>Plugins>Clearmem_1.09_all

Included here is version 1.07

Well I'm on 2.4 and it sems to have made things worse ! Was having to do a hard reset about once a fortnight and this week it's been twice since Saturday

I'll give the clearmem plugin a go to see if that helps

did you by chance restore your plugins and settings from 2.3 as almost every single case to date of some one suffering this kind of problem on 2.4 has resulted from users restoring backups from 2.3 and even one case of a guy restoring from 2.2.

Nope, fresh flash and everything manually setup from scratch

Same problem here (Purple screens, unresponsive in morning), went to 2.4 and things are worse. Hard reset needed every morning. I too did a fresh flash. I also was a bit suspect of the HDMI CEC so I disabled it but this was the case on 2.3 as well. The only thing I have done different is switch the epg from internal flash to usb stick. I have read somewhere that it could be a generic usb stick at fault when the epg is on auto update (which mine is 04:00). The next logical step would be to stop the auto update and do it myself (which works fine) and/or change the usb stick. For tonight I've opted to do a reboot at 05:00 with power manager.

Could deep standby be at fault? Or does that only happen if you enable it in power manager as I have left it at "no" but only enabled reboot.

I'm more than prepared do do some stringent testing if anybody with similar problems was to start from scratch and maintain a constant regarding our setups.
I want to make this box work as when it works its an awesome piece of kit! I've gleamed so much from these forums and the excellent community I've never really needed to ask for help! Just hope in my hour of need if I can help by testing with a few others I can repay the debt.

Crikey, I should post less stuff more often. I'm rambling on a bit....!

I take it you have a Vu+ Duo m8, dont you have a hard drive fitted ?, if so save epg to there to see if it's any better, also what epg are you using ? try open TV instead of rytec one.

Yep Vu duo. I have got a 1TB drive installed as well as a mounted 2TB NAS. I could be wrong but I could have sworn I read somewhere that epg was better on usb than HDD? Picons as well. Something to do with spinning up the HDD unnecessarily.

PS Im pretty sure Im on open TV.

Yes I read that all the time, never used a usb for picons or epg in my Duo or Ultimo, ok the zap time is slightly slower :-(, but so what, anyway worth a shot, you can always change it back.

Fair point. Will give it a go, along with changing the usb stick to be thorough!

EPG will be fine on a internal HDD as it's stored in live memory and only read from or written to at bootup and shutdown. I would not however store the EPG on the internal flash as the EPG can easily become corrupted and eat up all the space on the flash to the point where you have to do a full flash as the box will become non responsive or go into a bootloop. picons on the other hand are fine on the flash but i personally always store EPG and picons on a USB stick along with my daily backups, crash logs and debug logs.

Indeed, so once again (although the forum has now been filled with this very same advise over and over): EPG to HDD will never let a HDD spin up (for the reasons Pheonix explained again above).
Picons on the other hand do: they should never go to a HDD (it even slows down zapping considerably). Picons are fine in flash (my favourite) or USB, but not on HDD.

Thanks for the clarity Pheonix. In fairness I've seen alot of info/contradiction for the epg on usb/HDD debate but I appreciate the responses Rob considering it has been discussed alot on the forums. Still I'd like to return to what I mentioned about the morning crashes (same as op). This morning my box was responsive for the first time since 2.4 and all I did was enable power manager and force a reboot. Coincidence?
