View Full Version : [VU+ Duo] [SOLVED] Hard Disk spinnig in standby
Vu Duo ViX 2.3 (Linux 3.1.1) updated to current date.
Last saturday I reinstalled from scratch.
Just installed cccam 2.2.1
Tspanel 4.9
af9035 drivers
the issue is that the hard disk is not going to sleep.
It's sleep time when on is set to 5 minutes, but when it's on it never goes sleep.
And this happens when in standby too!
Epg location and picons are on USB stick.
What else should I checK?

No swap on HDD?
also check timeshift is off
@Rob
if I go Ble>VIX>Swap Manager it's inactive, nor I see any refer to HDD there.
Or do you mean any other kind of swap I'm not aware of?
@Maxwel
timeshift is set to USB
you sure its the hdd and not the fan that is spinning
oh yes it's definitively the hdd spinning.
Infact as soon as i turn the decoder in standby the fan goes down.
Any telnet command or else to check what's goin' on?
What plugins do you have installed?
CrossEPG
FontMagnifier
MediaScanner
OpenWebif
PicturePlayer
TSpanel
What exactly do you use TSpanel for?
It's useful to update settings. Just that.
Do you suggest any alternative?
btw,
are you Sicilian?
If so I'm Pugliese. :D
I'd just reflash the unit, do not install TSPanel. Use this guide for your softcam http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?9735-How-to-Install-CCcam-MGCamd-Others-on-Duo-Solo-Uno-ET9000-ET5000-ViX

What I'm saying is that the HDD shouldn't go to sleep immediatly when the box goes into standby: also then the wait-time will be obeyed.
Ok but spinning all night long!

It's not hard for me to go back. I usually do full backup of the image on the internal harddisk just in case something goes wrong.
But, I would like to investigate and discover what is causing the hdd activity.
About Softcam and Settings, I do know how to install them, manually.
I just find really "comfortable" TSpanel for settings update since I can do it without hassle.
With no need to use a computer for that task.
Just wondering, why in the download area of the plugin panel the various settings are so outdated?
Ok, so i went for a reflash. Everything was fine. Yesterday svening I eared the hdd spin down as it should. Now, again it's not stopping even when in standby for long time.
And this time TSpanel is NOT installed. Just Cccam 221

Are other network devices 'looking' at the box's HDD?
Are other network devices 'looking' at the box's HDD?
No Rob, nothing has been changed on other network devices.
I've checked again in the network device manager of the duo wich services were on: only the default ones.
For what I can tell the only preferences set to use hdd are:
recording
log destination

Debug logs activated and set to HDD? As debuglogs continous to be written during standby.
switched log to USB.
HDD still spinnig both ignoring idle time for power ON and for standby.
I'll try restarting enigma to see if it needs a restart

After switching the log location an E2 restart is required to activate that setting.

Anyway: triggered by your posts I checked the HDD of my Ultimo, and it turned out that it also never got to sleep. On the Ultimo it is easy to check, as the box supports Fancontrol2; in it's webbrowser is an icon if the HDD is awake.
After I de-activated the debuglogs the HDD went neatly to sleep.
So it now turns out that my HDD never ever went to sleep in all the months I used it. thanks for pointing me to this!
I can confirm that it was the log setting pointing to hdd to keep it active.
Switching to USB let the harddisk drive to sleep.
I can say that this is a SOLVED issue.

LOL, for me too. Although I never knew I had this issue!
Rob, do you think could be useful to add -SOLVED- to thread title?
hello to all of you,
i follow each and every step you all mentioned,
but in my case the external hhd is still spinning after even hours after the solo went on stand-by.
i have an external hdd with it's external power comming from dc12v,
i installed BH1.7.2, i also check in menu from BH that the crashloreport is deactivated,
stand by is set to 10', and i don't know what should i do more to solve the problem.
if anyone of you has an idea it should be great.
thank you in advance

This is a VIX forum and you are using BH. You could try using VIX and then you will get help here....:)

Not necessarily, we will always try to help users regardless of the image they choose to use on their receivers but as you said this is a ViX forum and as such most of us tend to use ViX. like my self i have no real knowledge of BH, Well not enough to be able to help resolve issues users face when using BH.

I know this is an old thread but this post just helped me out big time thanks 👍
