Hello, I've just got webif up and running, only problem is I'd like to add http authentication. I ticked the box and used the standard username 'root' and have tried both leaving password blank and 'dreambox', neither worked . My vu+duo is new and the username or password settings have never been altered. Any help as to what are the standard username and password are and also how to change to suit (or point me in the right direction) and of course thanks in advance, Ged.

if your using ViX there is a password changing app in the feeds.

go to plugins and you will find it in the system plugins section named setpasswd. install this and your good to go. or login to the box with a telnet session ( the default password should be blank or password ) then type passwd and you will be prompted to change the password.

once you have set the new password try to see if it works

Yes I am on VIX but before I start to change passwords etc, I'd like to know the preset ones (worried if I mess it up, I won't be asle to fix). If anyone can help please let me know the standard name and password. Thanks.

There is no password set as default it is left blank. I think the problem here is thet the authentication part of the new OpenWeb interface is not fully functioning although it's not something i my self would worry about.

Worked this out, if you have never set a password then you will not be able to log in using http authentication. You need to first set a password for your Vu+Duo. I used Vu+ control centre and the inbuilt telenet.

Open Vu+ control centre, (enter ip address if first use),then press connect and then press telenet

Type 'passwd'
Type 'your chosen password'
Retype 'your chosen password'

Sorted, once you enable http authentication on webif you will be able to log in using username 'root' and password 'your chosen password'

Thanks for your replys:thumbsup:
