You have to initialise it and mount it menu>system>hardisk

Check connections to the HDD, make sure the cables are connected securely and the HDD is powering up.

If VIX reflash still does not see the HDD, Menu > Setup > system > harddrive. Try official firmware to initialize first.

Is the HDD powering up? Can you feel it spinning? Are connections secure?

You have connected both SATA and HDD power cable haven't you? Check the SATA cable connection on the motherboard, make sure its pushed in securely.

If official dont recognise it are you able to connect HDD to a PC? To ensure its actually working.

Check the cables as pointed out.

Do you have another that that you can test with the Duo if this fails?

yes it matters, dont flash any image unless it's specifically named for the duo flashing a image for another receiver could cause real damage. you can get the links to the image from here.

mmm this is getting strange - looked in most places tried 3 different images - Original, vix and openpli

Found instructions based on openpli and Still no sign of the Harddrive menu - Why is this? does anyone know? doing my head in.

Ive even tried formatting hdd using Vu+ control Center that comes back with an error of

"mounting /dev/sda1 on media/hdd failed no such directory
root@vuduo:/# mkdir '/media/hdd/movie'
mkdir: cant create dirrectory '/media/hdd/movie': File exist"

Any ideas?

bare in mind this hdd is brand new never set foot in a computer.

P.S

With it connected to box - in telnet when I enter 'Mount' it doesnt look like it detects hdd

it sounds like it is unpartitioned and unformatted, can you connect it to pc partition it and format it as FAT32

mmmm dnt tell me its need to b formatted by a computer first lol

you dont have to, it can be done in the receiver but if you are having problems its the easiest way

First to be sure the HDD is ok, connect to a pc and check.
Second try a different HDD in the Duo, this could be a compatibility issue as this drive is SATA 3 6GB. Should be ok, but a possibility.
Make sure all cables are secure.
Theres not normally any need to pre-format in a pc first if your using a virgin drive.

Are you sure your looking in the right place for the harddisk menu?

Menu > Setup > System > Harddisk

If still no joy once you've done the above I'd recommend contacting where you purchased.

When I first used my buffalo 1tb drivestation. I didn't use a pc to format it. Direct to the STB from the box. Using VIX 2.3 from the menu and initialised straight away.
