Genuine or clone box? Is there anything showing on the TV screen? Have you tried other images, like and original image. And what version of vix was on the box and what one did you try to flash.

Did it come with a RS232 lead and circuit board?

sounds like you need to update the bootloader for the box also can you answer the question sicillian asked so we can know if it is a clone or original receiver.

No RS232lead or circuit board .it only came with a british plug power lead and a two pin power lead remote and HDMI cable plus screw for the hard drive and a manual.

Flash the latest bootloader via usb then flash the image, your box sounds like its genuine

yes as maxwell said above flash the latest bootloader then re-image the box and you should be fine. it's very likely your receiver was using a older kernel 2.6.18 image, the newer 3.1.1 kernel images need this new bootloader first.

you flash the bootloader in the exact same way you flash a image, the bootloader is named duo_cfe_3_0_usb and can be found along with the latest public build image ( version 204 ) in the following thread.

http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?14236-Vu-Duo-ViX-2-3-%28Linux-3-1-1%29-Image-Release-s

Flash the bootloader first, then power down the receiver and flash the image.

I'm happy your back up and running, as for bricking one of these boxes it's not that common a occurrence, unless you happen to flash the wrong bootloader.

Just install the hdd as normal, and then go to the Menu -> Setup -> System -> HDD -> Initialise, and you should be able to format your hdd there just fine :)
