Raspberry Pi buyers have been informed of possible delays in the distribution of their orders following manufacturing problems.

The first batch of the £22 micro computers have been hit by a production "hiccup" resulting in the wrong type of networking jack being soldered on to some of the circuit boards.

The error occurred when components were mixed up at a factory in China, where Raspberry Pi's production is outsourced to keep costs in check. It is thought that the mishap could have a knock-on effect on the production of future batches.

"We are very, very sorry. We know you want your Raspberry Pi as soon as possible (and many of you are being inhumanly patient, having followed us since we launched this website eight months ago)," Raspberry Pi said on its blog.

"We'll keep you updated with how manufacture is moving; this is, in the scheme of things, a minor problem, but it's still a bump in the road and we know that we rely on your goodwill to keep things moving forward."

Raspberry Pi, a credit card-sized computer that aims to generate interest in programming among children, went on general sale last month.
