View Full Version : [VU+ Duo] freezing of the box
Hi all,
Had some issues with my duo for a while now, namely crashing.
Sometimes i wake up to find the box has at somepoint rebooted (i know this as i put the box into standby every night and i wake up with it on the last channel i watched). ( i get the feeling the epg is download is causing this, sometimes the box freezes with 05:00 showing on the front panel - download time).
Also, i get crashing at 17:59 (a recording is set for 17:59 funnily enough).
It also crashes at other random times too.
Because of it crashing, no logs are being produced.
I though it was lack of memory, when i check, there is usually about 2.7mb free ram.
I went though the EPG settings the other week to clean that up (after a done a format of the box/hdd, installed a faster USB stick) to free up space.
I only use the open 28.2 epg data, nothing else. Databse is about 7mb big there.
What could be wrong?
Oh i am using latest vix, with all updates.
no other plugins installed, i do have my ps3 dvb-t tuner installed.
A usb hub plugged into the box which currently only feeds the usb stick (16gb).
Picons on the stick, same with EPG data.
Please someone help, its becoming a little annoying now.
Many thanks,
Stuart
I've been trying hard replicate a handful of issues similar to yours for the last week or so, but have not been able to do so. Please try the following: -
1. Flash fresh with latest public vix image.
2. Do not restore any settings backups, start fresh.
3. Disconnect the USB hub for now and connect USB stick direct to receiver.
4. Straight after the startup wizard is complete re-initialize both your HDD and USB stick (you will loose all data), menu > setup > system > harddisk > Initialize. Initialize one at a time. To view the progress press blue button > select the progress and press ok, you will then get the job view window.
5. Once both are initialized check in mount manager > blue button > vix > mount manager, make sure HDD is mounted to /media/hdd and usb stick mounted to /media/usb then do a full reboot, by holding down standby button on remote and selecting restart.
6. Carry on setup adding a fresh set of settings/bouquets. Do not add any plugins, just add your softcam, if any following this guide http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?8704-How-to-Install-CCcam-MGCamd-Others-on-Duo-Solo-Uno-ET9000-ET5000-ET6000-ViX Do not use any third party plugin such as TSPanel to install softcams.
6. Setup Crossepg guide as per here http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?14373-How-to-setup-Crossepg-in-all-ViX-Images selecting /media/usb for epg storage.
Finally once all setup check your recordings settings is set to /hdd/movie.
You say your getting a crashing at 17:59 when a recording is set, please post the crashlog. If this happens after the above fresh setup, try enabling Timeshift. Could be an issue with the spin up time of your HDD.
Please report back.

Also check if you new usb stick is vulnarable to this bug http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?16650-Problems-with-ViX-2-3-crashes-and-using-USB-memory-read-this-first, post 2 includes how to trigger the bug manually.
OK, i did all that last week, but was unsure on whether the initalise was done fully (never knew about the progress screen up till now), so i have gone though the whole process again.
Will keep you updated on issues, do you want me to keep this thread updated or post on the other ongoing thread about similar issues?
Many thanks for your help.
