Russia’s CTC Media has signed an agreement with France Telecom-backed GlobeCast that envisages the provision of uplink services to the Hot Bird 8 satellite.
This now allows for the distribution of the channel CTC International on Hot Bird 8, which covers Europe, as well as a number of countries in North Africa, in the Middle East and Central Asia.
As a result, CTC International’s reach has been extended to over 120 million cable and satellite households – or around 65% of the total – in the satellite’s coverage area.
CTC Media lists Modern Times Group (MTG) as its largest shareholder and operates three FTA channels in Russia.
It also has broadcast interests in Kazakhstan and Moldova.
Prior to the agreement with GlobeCast, its international pay-TV channel was already available in the Baltic Republics, Germany, Israel and North America.
