Multi remote - Exit fails at same point

I've read a few posts about multi remotes and bugs associated with it. I've learnt the entire Vu+ remote into my trusty Home Theatre Master MX500 and for the most part all is OK. However, certain buttons pressed after others fail. For instance "Exit" works as expected mostly but if I do a Green->Red I can "Exit" back 1 step but not out completely! This seems very odd - Exit working initially but not again.

Exit on original remote works fine in this situation as does a Harmony 525 with settings downloaded via the Harmony tool. Any reason anyone can think of my MX500 would exhibit this issue?
