I am going to be moving house in a few months time and this will mean a new HDTV. The TM-800 HD has caught my attention 'coz it's the cheapest original HD box I could find. I am planning to use this only on 28.2e only so don't want to splash alot on another box unless it's worth it (budget is £150). All i want this box to do is the following :

- Watch SD and HD channels
- Install softcam & plugins
- Record the odd programmes (SD &HD) on a USB stick or SATA disk (internal preferably) and playback

Will it do these things & is it a good receiver? I am prepared to do anything which is "techie" to get features working. If you don't recommend this receiver please let me know why & an alternative which i should look at.

Thanks in advance.

For the price its a good box and will do everything well bar the recording, people have managed to sort it with a USB convertor to SATA for internal HDD but ime of the box HDD is an issue. Having said that for the price it is at the moment from the sponsor you can't really get a better box for the price with the versatility it offers.

Dont buy it if you can save up and get either an et5000,et6000 or vu solo they are leagues ahead of the tm800 and have plenty of support unlike the technmomate

Stay away from the TM it's rubbish.
As jcm says go for the vu solo or Et5000 ten times better than the TM.
Sponsor has great deals on the vu and the ET.

The TM-800 is ok if you just want to watch TV, if you want some great extra's like good epg, timeshift etc... then go for a ET6000 or Solo.

Thank you for your feedback. Which box (ET5000, ET6000 & Vu Solo) is best to record things on a USB stick (would mostly prefer this option), Internal & external hard drive?

You can' t have an internal HDD with either of those boxes, though can with a UNO which also has a VFD as well.

All three boxes are solid performers and run VIX. If money is not an issue than go for the ET6000

Will I be able to record programmes (SD & HD) on a USB stick on the ET5000 or ET6000?

Yes you can, but I'd recommend using a USB HDD as HD progs can be quite large. Btw the ET5000 has now been taken over by the ET6000, dont forget to claim your discount http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?12662-%A35-discount-off-any-satellite-receiver-we-stock-to-forum-members-only!&p=91591#post91591
