Is there a way of activating the cachefs daemon (standard since Linux 2.6.30) in order to improve NFS/CIFS performance?

i get full speed of the 100mbits lan, with either we are limited to the hardware.

Yes, but keeping a copy in local disk/ssd cache could improve chase play and fast rewind.
