Old BH image. Need new bootloader! And plugins?

I all.
I've installed an old BH image time ago. Now I want to install the latest one with new bootloader and new Linux kernel.
Are the old plugins valid with the new image? Or are to be recompiled for the new one? (e.g. Various softcams)

some plugins and skins will not work with the new kernel no matter the image, softcams however seem to be largely fine, There was a brief problem with MGcam which was resolved by changing the value on line b to 06 as the cam was not auto detecting the correct box.

The a lot for the answer! Another question is about the need to return to a previous image backup.
If the new image doesnt meet my needs, is it possible to reinstall the old one with an old backup? Or the bootloader blocks any previous image?

The bootloaders on the Vu boxes are fully backwards compatible so they will happily work with all new and old images alike.
