Is this a notebook, or one of those netbooks without a dvd drive?!

If the latter, I'd be pretty sure you could hook up an external usb cd drive to do it?!

Is it a Aspire netbook?

Do you have a Windows 7 disc or .iso image of a windows 7 disc?

You can install using this usb method, used it many times myself: -

The usual sources m8, newsgroups, torrents etc..Then either use a usb dvd drive or the usb method in the guide i posted.

Cheers for that, will have to keep a note of that. Will come in handy for times when no dvd drives and don't have me usb drive...

This is another good guide, although for XP. Pretty much the same method.

Before you begin to look at putting Win 7 on your notebook what are the specs of the system, it may not be able to run correctly if you do not have enough memory or processing power.

Win 7 is very slick and nice to use it does take a lot of system resources and as such you need computing power to deal with this.

List down the specs and we can then go from there.

im only doing it because of this problem and hope it will cure it i have xp on it the now ive had this since they first came out and its been working fine until 3 days ago,its the wireless set up it finds my wireless but then it keeps going on and on about acquiring network address ,i deleted and reinstalled the network card and still it keeps doing this ,it ask for my key for wifi and i do it right but then it goes into that mode and limited or no network connection the other thing is the battery doesnt seem to want to charge its forever on the mains

Sounds like some sort of driver corruption, or hardware has failed.

I would recommend putting Win XP back onto the laptop as it came installed with it and I would not think that Win 7 would run correctly.

Here is the link to the Acer site, all you need to do is click what model you have and then download all drivers and applications.

I would recommend putting a clean install of Windows XP onto the laptop first then install the downloaded drivers and applications rebooting in-between each install.
