Samsung Electronics has agreed a deal with Netflix to launch the US subscription streaming service on its connected TV platform.

Netflix, which launched in the UK and Ireland on Monday, is now available from the Samsung Smart TV App Store.

The Netflix App is currently downloadable on Samsung's D7000 and D8000 Smart TV series, but it will launch on Samsung Blu-ray players "in the coming months".

Users can pay £5.99 a month to stream a range of films and TV shows on their Samsung TVs, including The Expendables, 24 and The Only Way Is Essex. A free one-month trial is currently available from the Netflix website.

"Our partnership with Netflix is the latest in our commitment to deliver a variety of top-quality video services to our customers," said Guy Kinnell, Samsung UK's marketing director for TV.

"With multiple methods of payment available across our raft of entertainment apps, the new Netflix Smart TV App provides significant value to viewers who love movies and TV.

"With thousands of hours of entertainment across Hollywood blockbusters to local TV programmes, people can enjoy a seamless cinema-like experience via the true-to-life picture quality and revolutionary product design of their Smart TV and, soon on their Blu-ray players.''

Netflix vice president of product development Greg Peters added: "Samsung Smart TVs will offer Netflix members in the UK a great streaming experience with an amazing variety of films and TV programmes streamed over the internet from Netflix directly to their TV."

Alongside Samsung Smart TVs, Netflix is also available on a wide variety of other devices, including the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Apple TV, LG Blu-ray players, and Android and iOS smartphones and tablets.
