The bootloader process is very quick does not take anything as long as an image flash.

Make sure when you did no USB devices were connected.

If it goes through the process than flash the image.

but its not giving me any message that its gone through
is there any way of checking the bootlaoder on the box what version it is

you should see the same prompt on the VFD that you would when flashing a box. make sure you format the stick to fat32 then decompress the archive containing the bootloader and copy the vuplus folder to the stick and try again. make sure you have no other USB devices at all plugged into the box during this time and DO NOT remove the stick mid way through or you will kill the box.

ok
put the usb with vix 2.3
the box messages on its screen
reading usb
erasing flash
programming
finished
remove usb and reboot

removed the usb at the back and rebotted the box
its stuck on the starting
how much time it takes to start the box with the new image

so have you loaded the new bootloader first ? then flashed the image ?.

if it's not booting leave it for around ten minutes then if it still has not booted flash it again but skip the bootloader this time. also let it boot up for the first time without the stick containing picons etc.

as for booting times mine takes around 2 minutes.

still stuck on starting

yes loaded the new bootloader and then flashed the image
the box gave the above messages
then took the stick out and rebooted it
but its still stuck in starting
i turned the box off from the back button

re-flash the image with a different stick to the one you just used.

boxer29
08-01-12, 13:34
im using a kingston data traveler 4gb

Larry-G
08-01-12, 13:37
do you have a different stick to try ? because some boxes can be very iffy with the stick they will flash with even sticks that are known to work can be problematic. try another stick and try downloading the image again but from a different browser as it can become corrupted via a bad download.

boxer29
08-01-12, 13:51
im putting these files on the usb
vuplus/duo /then 3 files
kernal_cfe_auto.bin
reboot.upgate
root_cfe_auto.jffs2
is this right

Larry-G
08-01-12, 13:54
yes those are the files. you could try flashing the image to a earlier version say 2.3 GM then once it has booted flash again back to the 2.3 image with the 3.1.1 kernel see if that works for you.

boxer29
08-01-12, 14:05
downloaded the files again this time used internet explorer
unrar them got 60 mb 3 files
put them in a diff usb stick and
flashed the box again
but still stuck on the starting

can i put the vix 2.1 image back on the box now
or what

Larry-G
08-01-12, 14:11
if you want to put 2.1 back on then yes you can although in my opinion you are giving up far far too easily. Did you use a different USB stick as i suggested ?.

boxer29
08-01-12, 14:13
yes i have used 2 diff usb stick
now foramting a 3rd pny 2gb one to FAT 32
will try this with the vix2.3 gm this time and see what happens

Larry-G
08-01-12, 14:16
2.3 GM does not have the 3.1.1 kernel so it will load without problems however you will not be able to use the online updates to update the image or it will cause problems as you need to flash the 3.1.1. kernel image to the box via USB on it's own.

which vix 2.3 to use now
vix 2.3 153
vix 2.3 311

you can flash 153 as thats the first public build with the 3.1.1 kernel in but the latest public image released is 2.3 build 160 i believe.

boxer29

the box stuck in starting after putting vix 2.3 with 3.1.1 kernal im using the one from the vix 2.3 153 build dated 24.12.11
http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?14236-Vu-Duo-ViX-2-3-%28Linux-3-1-1%29-25-12-2011
where to get the latest version

Larry-G
08-01-12, 15:05
you can flash the 2.3 GM image then using the Image backup feature download the absolute latest public build directly to your box. then transfer it to your pc and reflash from that version.

sorry i didnt understand this
can you explain thanks

Larry-G
08-01-12, 15:11
rite you can flash the box to the 2.3 GM image which is the old bootloader version. then you go to blue button > vix > image manager and from there you can directly download various builds from our servers directly to your receiver for safekeeping or to flash at a later date. so you can use this feature to download the newest public 2.3 image with the linux 3.1.1 kernel in which is build 160 i believe.

Yes i know it's long winded but you may as well try it, before giving up and going back to 2.1 or 2.2

boxer29

and then upgraded in the box
and it did the upgrade ok
but when it asked me to restart the box
its again stuck in the starting thing
what should i do
stuck at the moment

I have a feeling the bootloader in the usb did not load to the box when you did it first,A few people had the same problem few weeks ago mybe Pheonix or the other Vix Team could help.

boxer29

If the bootloader didn't load
Why its working with the vix2.3 gm and 133 build
Or is it the bootloader specific for vix 2.3 153 build with 311 kernel
Can someone from the developer answer this pls

boxer29

how do i do it
i will give it a go

is there any chance the bootloader might be the problem ,that it hadnt updated

Larry-G

yes use the backup manager and image manager to make backups of your settings now, and if in doubt re-load the bootloader you should get the same message on the VFD when flashing the bootloader as you would a image.

boxer29
09-01-12, 10:11
Well I was told you get a flash of the screen when you instal l the bootloader,i didn't get any message on the VFD like I hour when flashing the image so is it ok for me to make a backup and then reflash the bootloadeand then the image.can I put your latest image which you have posted in the above thread
Thanks

Larry-G
09-01-12, 10:45
yes its fine to back every thing up then load the bootloader and image that i posted and see what happens. and yes the bootloader flashes in seconds but you should still get the message on the VFD.
